Summary:
The Production Controller will plan and purchase materials, oversee material flow, and all aspects of inventory control functions, including stockroom, planning, and material expediting for the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, Fabrication Branch, Edwards AFB.
Responsible for issuing and tracking work orders, ensuring that required material is supplied to the production floor, as according to the production planning schedule.
This position is also responsible for expediting and prioritizing work orders.
This position is involved in the pre-production (planning) stage as well as the production (control and supervision) stage.
A large part of the job is dealing with people management.
This position is involved in the pre-production (planning), the production (control and supervision) and post fabrication/pre-delivery stages.
Using readiness, production and management reports available from the Work Order and NAMIS programs and/or manual system, provides work order/component status, actions in progress, and location of equipment as required or requested.
Responsible for data input of work order information, status changes, supply updates and other pertinent information.
Duties/
Responsibilities:
Estimate time & cost to complete projects associated with the Fabrication Branch.
Review work requests & drawings for details, manufacturability & recommend changes in scope, design, details, specifications or processes.
Liaison & technical interface between Engineering Branch, Fabrication Branch, customers and or contractors.
Evaluate on-site capability to perform requested work.
Coordinate and expedite work between Armstrong work centers, USAF work centers & off-site vendors.
Locate, evaluate & qualify vendors for potential manufacturing, initiate quote process, develop supplier relationships and performance.
Prepare and process requisitions & purchase orders (PO's) for supplies, manufacturing materials and hardware required for project support.
Prepare and evaluate estimates for outsourced work.
Maintain the integrity and accuracy of all Fabrication Branch data (electronic & paper) files.
Assist the Fabrication Branch Chief in preparing presentations to Center Leadership.
Assist Branch group leaders prioritize NAMIS work requests & Center work orders.
Plan and manage production schedules to ensure 100% on-time delivery of orders.
Maintain an active knowledge of all work in process (WIP) to ensure timely completion.
Interface with manufacturing, vendors/suppliers & engineering personnel.
Requirements:
10-year experience in the field of purchasing and production control in a fabrication, metal working and composite repair assembly/manufacturing environment.
Able to obtain and maintain Designated Inspector (DI) stamp High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Associates degree, or higher, preferred.
Able to obtain and maintain U.
S.
Secret Clearance.
Active clearance preferred Able to obtain and maintain Designated Inspector (DI) stamp Shop floor control experience a must.
Ability to understand engineering drawings and documents, Bill of Materials (BOM's), change orders and procedures.
Understanding of and ability to employ materials acquisition, requisitions & purchase orders (PO's) process for supplies, manufacturing materials and hardware required for project support.
Understanding of and ability to apply quality/continuous improvement initiatives, process improvement and manufacturing/production safety practices.
Lean manufacturing background preferred.
Well-developed analytical, organizational, communication, time management and problem-solving skills.
Must have well developed ability to multi-task and track concurrent projects.
Must have strong verbal and written communication and leadership skills to lead team members and explain production strategies.
High level of energy with an inherent drive to embrace challenges and continuous improvement.
Work well with executive management as well as with technicians and engineers.
Clearance:
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain US Secret Clearance - required, active secret - preferred Physical Demands:
This maintenance classification activity is usually accomplished in an indoor workshop environment.
Activities may include climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking demands.
May require lifting of objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 lbs.
Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close and peripheral vision, and acceptable depth perception.
Work Environment:
The diversity of working conditions range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc.
May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards exist.
